HTC U23 Pro: A Snapdragon 7 Gen 1-powered, ‘Metaverse’ smartphone

    Published on:

HTC has been relevant to the smartphone scene for a long time, and most of their work in recent years has involved virtual and augmented reality products such as the HTC VIVE. Perhaps that’s why, with his return to the smartphone arena, he developed the HTC 23 Pro, a mid-range device purported to “merge the real and virtual worlds” in the Metaverse.

First, let’s take a look at the hardware on offer. The HTC U23 Pro features a 6.7-inch FHD+ OLED display capable of a 120Hz refresh rate, topped with a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for added scratch resistance. Also inside is last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 system-on-chip, which will soon have Android 13 and will have up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Elsewhere, a 108MP, f/1.7 main camera with optical image stabilization flanked by 8MP, f/2.4 ultra-wide shooters, a 5MP, f/2.2 macro lens, and a 2MP, f/ It has a quad rear camera setup with a 2.4 depth sensor. . Meanwhile, on the front, we have a front-facing 32MP, f/2.45 camera for all your selfie needs.

Other notable features include a 4,600mAh battery with 30W fast charging and 15W wireless charging. It also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an IP67 dust and water rating, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and reverse wireless charging. The HTC U23 Pro also supports WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G and NFC wireless connectivity and comes in either coffee black or snow white.

As for why this is actually a Metaverse-focused smartphone, HTC says it will allow you to “start your Viverse story” with the U23 Pro. Basically, the device comes pre-installed with HTC’s Viverse app. This is, according to HTC, a VR platform that allows users and communities to connect within the metaverse. You can use it to message others via augmented reality, manage your crypto assets in Vive Wallet, or use it as a companion for your HTC VIVE VR headset. Unfortunately, the HTC VIVE VR headset is not bundled with the U23 Pro.

No word yet on whether the HTC U23 Pro will make an appearance in Malaysia, but it’s available for pre-order now in its home country of Taiwan, as well as in select territories such as the UK. £499 (~RM2,818.77).
