Industrial Metaverse in the Spotlight at Hannover Fair

    Published on:

The Metaverse represents the next frontier in technology, or is already under water. There is no time. At least, that’s what we’re led to believe, if we’ve read op-eds about the Metaverse that generally leave no room for nuance.

Though the columnist is out of the question, real-world applications of Metaverse technology continue to leave the production line. This week’s Hanover Fair (April 17-21) is a perfect example. At the world’s leading industrial trade fair, he attracts 4,000 companies from the engineering and energy world, all showcasing his technology solutions for the 2020s and beyond.

Not surprisingly, the metaverse and related technologies have been a hot topic at this year’s event.

The metaverse at the heart of Industry 4.0

When the fair started early in the week, one of the first topics on the agenda was, you guessed it, the Metaverse.

Occupying the 10:35 am slot was “The Industrial Metaverse – Fact or Fiction? Vision, Technology, Use Casesand its early events were a signpost for what was to come. A number of panel discussions quickly put the metaverse under the microscope, examining the potential of virtual environments and “digital twins” to boost productivity across industries. I got

For Sebastian Klöß, head of consumer technology at the digital industry association Bitkom, the VR-powered metaverse is “mainly about combining machine data and real-time data from factories with virtual worlds.”

However, this may be too simplistic a view.Others believe the Metaverse will be the central pillar Industry 4.0 Because it can integrate and enhance other important technological touchstones such as big data, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and manufacturing execution systems.

A good example of this is Siemens’ new Digital Experience Center in Erlangen, Bavaria. In fact, several company representatives, including Dominik Riehle, head of digital experience, attended the fair to “concretely describe the Siemens Digital Enterprise, primarily by demonstrating virtually the entire design-to-development process chain.” We are talking about a center that aims to be “interactive and interactive”. From job preparation to production to product shipment.

The digital twin is at the core of the heart. Siemens has created technology that enables the creation of a holistic digital counterpart for logistics centers, providing greater flexibility, higher throughput and greater sustainability to the industry.

Digital twins not only reduce the need for physical prototypes, they also give companies the opportunity to evaluate equipment in a safe virtual space before going into production.

According to Siemens, digital twins “enable the integration of the entire product lifecycle with factory lifecycle and performance data,” resulting in a “continuous, open optimization loop for product and production.”

To demonstrate the potential of this technology, the company built a digital twin of its own distribution center in Nuremberg. The facility processes 12,000 orders and 22,000 invoice items daily.

After discussing a digital experience center in Hannover, Siemens executives said next week’s Logimatthe international trade fair for intralogistics solutions and process management, and try again.

    the metaverse is not dead

Elsewhere in Hanover, digital twin technology introduces a product called the Metaverse of Industrial Plant. The product allows users to “explore a virtual world filled with industrial plants and facilities, complete with realistic graphics and sound effects.”

another panel discussion Discuss how robotics simulation and XR can be used to leverage the industrial metaverse for faster time to market. The “Future of Work” summit will also explore the real-world application of the Metaverse in a medium-sized German industrial company.

Perhaps one of the most interesting exhibits is using Microsoft’s mixed reality HoloLens headset to Showcase The e-Wave X electric vehicle design, manufacturing, operation and optimization process.

A search for ‘metaverse’ on the Hannover Fair website yields 78 hits, 16 of which fall into the Exhibitors and Products category and 59 into the Speakers and Events category.

In addition to digital twins, this year’s event showcases many other metaverse technologies, including VR headsets and other wearables, digital design and scanning products, and camera-equipped robots that help create virtual clones of factory floors. .

So is the Metaverse dead? It certainly doesn’t sound like it.
