    Pune (Maharashtra) [India]August 3: The Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune, in partnership with Swansea University, UK, is hosting a seminar series titled “The Digital Future of Business and Society: New Perspectives on the Metaverse”. .
    The purpose of this seminar series is to explore the transformative potential of the metaverse and its profound impact on many aspects of business and society. At the 9th seminar in the ongoing series, Prof. Jain Varsha of Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA), Ahmedabad, India gave a fascinating presentation and added his expertise to the discussion. The presentation focused on the interesting topic of ‘Opportunities and Challenges of the Metaverse in Marketing’, shedding light on the many hurdles and opportunities associated with this rapidly evolving digital realm.
    Professor Varsha Jain is Chair of AGK, Professor of Marketing, Co-Chair of PhD and Research at MICA, India. She is Associate Editor-in-Chief (AE) of Consumer Behavior Journals (JCB, Wiley UK, A Journal) and in 2022 she received the Best AE Award from JCB. She is an editorial board member of the Journal of International Information Management (A* Journal), Journal of Advertising Research (A Journal), and Journal of Business Research (A Journal), and Vice Chair of the Academy of Advertising and Marketing. She serves as Vice President of the International Relations, Higher Education, Special Interests Group, and American Marketing Association. She has authored over 120 of her publications, including multiple papers in A* and A journals. Professor Jain has received over 23 international and national awards and scholarship gold medals. In her academic career, she has been a Visiting Scholar at Emory Her School of Business in Atlanta, USA, and a Visiting Scholar at the University of Greenwich, London, and Northwestern University Medill School, USA. Her areas of interest are her ABCD which is Advertising, Branding, Consumer Behavior and Digital (mostly immersive technologies like her AI, AR, VR and Meta). She is co-editor of her JCB special issue related to AI, Social Media Influencers and the Metaverse, due out by next year. She has co-authored with Professors Jag Sheth and Don Schlutz, including Consumer Behavior: A Digital Native. She is currently working on the international edition of the book Consumer Behavior in Digital Contexts, Her AI as the Next Frontier for Personalized Engagement of Service, Customer Relationship Management in Digital Her Context with Professor Sheth, and Purpose-Driven I am working on writing type branding and other branding books. Professor David Aaker and another book on qualitative research methods in the digital age (Macmillan, UK).
    During an engaging seminar, Professor Jain explored the fascinating world of immersive technology, covering topics ranging from customized avatars and diverse personas to investments and future prospects in the Metaverse industry. This seminar will provide a thoughtful look at both the bright side and the dark side of the Metaverse, recognizing its promise of connectivity, enriching experiences and endless possibilities, as well as concerns about privacy, security and responsible use.     Discussions on the physical environment and the metaverse proved to be extremely important as participants weighed the strengths and weaknesses of each realm. Additionally, the clash of price and value consciousness in the metaverse has generated interesting conversations about the accessibility and perceived value of the metaverse. The seminar also aroused curiosity about future research avenues, especially the application of the Metaverse in marketing. Attendees gained a deeper understanding of the transformative potential of the Metaverse and the importance of responsible development to create an inclusive and rich digital space.

    The seminar is co-hosted by Professor Yogesh K Dwivedi, Professor of Digital Marketing and Innovation, School of Management, Swansea University, Wales, UK. Dr. Laurie Hughes is Senior Lecturer in the Strategic Management Group, Swansea University School of Management. Wales, UK. and Prof. Ramakrishnan Raman, Director of SIBM-Pune, Dean of Business Administration at Symbiosis International and Director of Strategic Development at Symbiosis. His series of seminars are organized by the Digital Marketing and Analytics SIG Marketing Academy, the Grenoble IAE School of Management (Grenoble INP School at Grenoble Alpes University), the e-Business and e-Government SIG British Academy of Management, and the British Academy of Information Systems (UKAIS).
