New Delhi [India], May 19 (ANI/SRV): Symbiosis International – Symbiosis Institute of Business Management (SIBM), Pune, and Swansea University, UK (UK), held the 6th Seminar, the 3rd held a seminar. “The Digital Future for Business and Society” series. This seminar was his third in the series and focused on exploring “new perspectives on the metaverse”.
The organization of this seminar is a collaborative effort led by respected people. Professor Yogesh K Dwivedi, Professor of Digital His Marketing and Innovation at the School of Management, Swansea University, Wales, UK, will collaborate with Dr. Laurie Hughes, Senior Lecturer in his group of Strategic Operations at the University. Additionally, Professor Ramakrishnan Raman, Director of SIBM-Pune, Dean of Business Administration at Symbiosis International and Director of Strategic Development at Symbiosis, plays a key role in this joint initiative.
This seminar series is organized by the Digital Marketing and Analytics SIG Marketing Academy, the Grenoble IAE School of Management (Grenoble INP School at Grenoble Alpes University), the e-Business and e-Government SIG British Academy of Management, and the British Academy of Information Systems (UKAIS). The seminar will be moderated by his Dr. Vinod Kumar, Associate Professor at SIBM Pune and his Dr. Anabel Gutierrez, Senior Lecturer in Marketing, Royal Holloway, University of London.
The sixth seminar in the series will take place on May 17, 2023 and will be presented by prominent thought leader Professor Nil Kshetri of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, USA, with the theme of “Reducing Pollution and Creating Pollution”. shared insights on The Metaverse Effect”.
Professor Nil Kshetri is a professor at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a research fellow at Kobe University in Japan. He is the author of his 13 books and his over 200 academic papers. Hundreds of media outlets have featured Professor Neal’s work, including the BBC, The Economist, Al Jazeera, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, Public Radio International, Newsweek, Scientific American and Bloomberg TV. In addition, we have provided consulting services to the Asian Development Bank, the Federal Secretariat, and various United Nations agencies. Professor Neil gave two talks at his TEDx where he spoke about the role of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain in the fight against poverty. Both of his Ted talks are available on his YouTube.
In this thought-provoking seminar, Professor Neil shed light on different types of metaverses, including consumer metaverses, enterprise metaverses, and industrial metaverses. He said some ideas suggest the metaverse has the potential to make the world cleaner and greener. In contrast, another school of thought warns of its potential as a disaster that threatens environmental sustainability. We also discussed the mechanisms by which the metaverse can contribute to the reduction and removal of pollution. Finally, Professor Nill emphasized the importance of understanding the environmental impacts of key technologies employed in the Metaverse, such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented and virtual reality. While these technologies enable immersive experiences and enhanced functionality, they can also contribute to issues such as e-waste generation and shortened product lifecycles. He also mentioned one of the prominent challenges he faces: efficient storage, processing and transmission of data within the metaverse.
In conclusion, Professor Nill emphasized that it is imperative to address the environmental impacts of the Metaverse as it continues to evolve and shape our digital experiences. By fostering dialogue, conducting research, and enforcing responsible practices, we can maximize the potential of the Metaverse while minimizing negative environmental impacts.

Dr Ramakrishnan Raman, Director of SIBM Pune, further elaborated on the seminar series and sessions, stating, “The purpose of this seminar series is to provide a timely and thought-provoking introduction to the Metaverse and its impact on the future of business and management. It’s about providing insight,” he said. , the societal factors impacted by the growth, direction, and widespread adoption of this new immersive technology. It aims to highlight the opportunities and challenges posed by the emergence of metaverse. He added that the next seminar in the series is scheduled for June 21, 2023, with Professor Thavas Papagiannidis, University of Newcastle, UK, presenting his thoughts on the topic ‘Metaverse Retail: Opportunities and Challenges’.
