Ivanti positions itself as a provider of “Work Anywhere Levels Up”. As the pandemic hit and employees began working from home or working remotely, Ivanti’s solutions became a premium in the market. The company recognizes that “work anywhere” is perhaps the most important work phenomenon of the last century and has devoted much of its energy to thought leadership on “work anywhere”.
The reality is that leaders and organizations around the world will have to adapt not only to hybrid work, but also to fully remote work and digital nomadism. This change is not just a temporary response to a global crisis. It’s a fundamental shift in how we perceive and get work done.
But this new reality faces resistance from some quarters, often due to generational issues. Leaders accustomed to having direct reports and extended teams in the office, collaborating directly, and feeling in control of the direction of the organization are reluctant to let go of that control. This discomfort is understandable, but must be overcome if your business is to thrive in the new normal.
The role of technology in facilitating control
The big question is how to ensure productivity and good results from the collective organization without unduly violating the personal integrity of employees. The answer lies in relearning management models and leveraging technology.
Tools are now available that allow remote interaction and provide detailed information about the average usage time of each solution on the network. A focus on digital experiences is critical in the modern work environment. Today’s employees, especially young adults, are asking questions about their digital experience at a potential employer. They know how easy it is to connect and disconnect from networks, how quickly they can get answers when they have problems with tools and hardware, and what their overall digital experience will look like. But it’s not just technology. It also concerns leadership. CISOs and CHROs are often more comfortable with their employees working remotely longer hours. They know they risk losing employees if they don’t allow their talented employees to work remotely.
The future of hybrid and remote work
by 2023 Work Anywhere Report by Ivanti66% of workers report no negative impact from remote work, up from 51% in 2020. Additionally, 71% of hybrid workers believe remote work is the most attractive option, up from 42% in 2020.
These trends suggest that remote and hybrid work is not a temporary phase, but the new permanent state. Companies will have to adapt, and this includes changing leadership models for remote work. Leaders must relearn how to recruit talent remotely, evaluate performance, coach remotely, and sometimes remotely advise people outside the organization.
This change in leadership model is not an easy task. It requires a fundamental shift in thinking and approach. Leaders must learn to trust their employees more, evaluate them based on their performance rather than time spent in the office, and provide support and guidance even when they are not physically present.
Additionally, leaders must learn how to meet the challenges of maintaining team cohesion and company culture in remote or hybrid work environments. This may include finding new ways to foster collaboration and connection among team members, such as virtual team building activities and regular video conferences.
The role of technology in facilitating remote work
Technology plays a key role in enabling remote and hybrid work. The right technology, from collaboration tools that allow team members to work together in real time, to project management tools that keep everyone on track, to communication tools that facilitate regular check-ins and updates. allows you to work remotely more efficiently and effectively.
Additionally, technology can help solve some of the challenges associated with remote work. For example, productivity tracking tools can provide leaders with insight into how employees are spending their time and help ensure accountability without resorting to micromanagement. Similarly, virtual private networks (VPNs) and other security measures can help protect sensitive company data, even when employees are working from home or other remote locations.
Importance of employee choice
One of the key insights from our conversation with Jeff Abbott is the importance of employee choice in the new work reality. The best companies are those that give employees the flexibility to choose when, how and where they work.
This does not mean that employees should be left free. Businesses must provide the necessary support and resources to enable their employees to work effectively, whether in the office or from home. But by giving employees more control over how they work, companies can increase employee satisfaction and productivity while attracting and retaining top talent.
The best companies are those that not only embrace “work from anywhere,” but actively embrace it as a new leadership challenge. They recognize that the best choice is the employee, which leads to the highest productivity, and adjust their models to adapt to this new reality.
