    • YG Plus and Metaverse Studio Karta have partnered to build a new virtual experience on Roblox.
    • Blackpink: The Palace is a virtual hub where fans of the K-pop music group (Blinks) can host virtual gatherings.
    • Fans can take selfies with avatars that look like band members, explore the Great Throne Room, and accumulate in-game currency.

YG Plus, the media and advertising agency for South Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment, has partnered with metaverse studio Karta to build virtual experiences on Roblox.

Dubbed Blackpink: The Palace, this virtual hub is inspired by K-pop music group Blackpink. It hosts groups of fans (Blinks) and allows them to organize gatherings within the metaverse.

Users will be able to explore the world of BLACKPINK while participating in various activities and connecting with fellow fans, according to Wednesday’s announcement. Fans can also take selfies with avatars that look like band members, explore the Great Throne Room, and accumulate in-game currency.

Hyojung Lee, head of YG PLUS IPX division, commented on this partnership. Said: “We look forward to welcoming fans around the world to our beautiful virtual palace where they can party, connect and experience everything BLACKPINK transcends the constraints of time and space.”

“Fans will be amazed to see the avatars of all four BLACKPINK members (JISOO, JENNIE, ROSÉ, LISA) and get the chance to take a selfie,” Lee added.

The announcement comes just a month after Karta raised $1.1 million in a funding round led by GameTech Ventures. Other participants in the round included investors from the music, gaming, sports and financial industries.

Roblox recently ran into trouble in a lawsuit accused of facilitating illegal gambling for minors. The company announced in June 2023 that it will introduce a new experience for users 17 and older to help it maintain its most active user base.

The company offers one of the four major metaverse platforms alongside Minecraft, Zepeto and Fortnite.
